What Is a Slab Leak?
In most homes, copper lines run underneath the concrete foundation in your home. When these lines leak it’s known as a slab leak or foundation leak. Often, aging pipes or ground movement cause these leaks. The problem for most homeowners is they don’t know they have a problem until it’s too late.
How Can You Tell You Have a Slab Leak?
As mentioned, slab leaks are difficult to detect, and most leaks go on for years before people notice any signs of trouble. However, there are things to watch out for that show you have a problem and need slab leak repair, including:
- Rising water bill for no clear reason
- Hearing running water when you’re not using any
- Mold and mildew buildup
- Damp carpets
- Pooling water on your lawn
- Lower than normal water pressure
- Cracks in your home’s baseboard
If you notice any of these symptoms, call Champion Plumbing and ask about our foundation leak detection service to get the problem fixed before further damage occurs.

How to Test for Slab Leaks
One of the easiest ways to test for a foundation leak or slab leak is to do a water meter test. Make sure you’re not using any water in your home, then check your water meter. If it shows water usage, it means you have a leak somewhere in the system. If you can’t see water running via the meter, stop using water, take a reading, then take another one an hour later. If the meter shows water usage, call us for inspection.
